Musical Director Kyle Blake

Kyle Blake joined Bratton Silver Band as Musical Director in January 2023.

Kyle’s musical journey started in his hometown of Manchester when aged 12 he began learning trombone. He went on to study for a degree in music at The University of Huddersfield and a PGCE in Secondary Music. After embarking on a successful teaching career, Kyle used time during covid lock down to complete a master’s degree in music performance.

Kyle’s background both in brass bands and his new career with the British Army Band Tidworth has been filled with success. He has enjoyed major wins at National and European competitions with the Cory Band which was ranked number one brass band in the world.

Since joining the Army, Kyle has been recognised by the Worshipful Company of Musicians, being awarded the Cassel Prize Silver Medal in 2022. He has also been recognised for his work in defence and the local community, and was short-listed as a finalist in the inaugural LGBTQ+ Defence Awards 2023 Rising Star Category. A highlight for Kyle was performing in the coronation of King Charles III.
As a conductor, Kyle is proving successful having guested with bands such as Woodfalls Band, Unite the Union Band and Kidlington Concert Brass to name a few. Earlier in 2023, Kyle was successful in the Brass Band Conductors Association annual competition, making it to the final and being placed 3rd from a global field of competitors.

Since joining Bratton Silver Band as MD, Kyle has helped the band achieve a 2nd place at the Oxfordshire and Counties Contest as well as staging several exciting concerts in the bands home county of Wiltshire. Bratton Silver Band is excited for the future with Kyle at the helm and has an exciting programme of concerts and contests planned for 2024.
